Is Fly Fishing for Me, Him,
Her,
Us, Them?
brought to you by AnglerUniversity.com -
fly fishing made easy!
Fly fishing is an enjoyable activity - part sport, part
art and part science. It
is especially suited
toward anyone attracted to the outdoors, but can also be a wonderful introduction
to the outdoors
for anyone that is not initiated. What is it about fly fishing that
attracts so many diverse people?
Picture yourself standing in the water, a stream or the ocean, cool water
rushing by - you are casting,
picking up line, casting, the movement of your arm creating a perfect loop
and floating your fly to your
intended target. Bam! Fish on!
You are totally focused on the task at hand. You
use all your abilities to coax a fish onto the terminal
end of your tackle - the fly. Super focus - so focused
that time goes by so quickly, at a much more rapid pace
than you're used to - where did all that time go?
You feel refreshed and clean. Tired, yes, but with renewed spirit,
humbled by lessons learned and
hopeful for your next outing.
Once you conquer the simple basics of fly fishing, this is what your
outings are like! Some compare it
to religion (see Norman MacLean, "A River Runs Through it"). Some
say you are entering a "flow"
state, and others call it their therapy. Almost all agree that the
experience is a way of "losing yourself",
so into what you are doing that your daily concerns are forgotten,
you just enjoy yourself.
Another great attribute of fly fishing is that you can fly fish almost
anywhere. This
sport will bring you to
some of the most beautiful and scenic places in the world, but you'll also
re-discover the creek, pond, stream
or lake in your own town. You'll be seen fighting a 100 lb
Tarpon, from a flats boat in the Florida Keys - and your
neighbor will notice you at the brook behind the baseball field in town. You
can fly fish in the shadow
of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, or you can fly fish in the "Big Apple",
that's right, NYC - in the shadow
of the Statue of Liberty!
Then there's the science. This sport will teach you about complex
ecosystems, and the interactions
of their participants. But you will also be delighted at the
quiet simplicity in a doe bringing a fawn to
the water for an evening drink.
You'll discover your own reasons for enjoying the sport.
As we write, we are soundly reminded of the reasons we want to teach
and outfit beginner fly fishers!
We feel that more people should be out there experiencing the outdoors
as we've mentioned and more -
all that we've so gratefully experienced through our beloved sport.
Is fly fishing for you, your husband, wife, father, son,? Only you
can answer that question - but if you were to ask us here at
AnglerUniversity.com - we think you'd know our answer. This
sport is, and should be, for everyone!
